What Does an EICR Certificate Actually Show?

An EICR certificate is more than a single verdict. It is a detailed record of your installation, circuit by circuit, and knowing how it is laid out makes it far less intimidating.

The headline: satisfactory or unsatisfactory

The first thing to look for is the overall assessment. Satisfactory means the installation is safe for continued use. Unsatisfactory means at least one item was found that needs putting right before it can be called safe.

The detail behind the verdict

Underneath, the report lists every circuit and the measured results — earth loop impedance, insulation resistance, RCD trip times and more — alongside any observations coded C1, C2, C3 or FI. It also names the engineer, their qualifications, and the date of the next recommended inspection.

A good report explains each observation in plain English rather than leaving you with a page of codes. Ask us if anything on yours is unclear.
